Analyse Link Between CD and Advert

Magazine Advert

Album Cover

As you can see from this comparison of the magazine advert and the album Kings Of Leon have decided to creat a very strong link between the two. It is very easy to identify that these two are closely related and are both trying to promote the same thing. A major simlarity between the to pieces shown here is the image, both use the same image which is placed in the centre of both pieces. The only difference is that on the magazine advert the picture does not cover the whole page it is cut short at the top and bottom in order for the text to be placed on a black background so it is easier for the audience to read. Whereas on the album cover the image covers the whole cover as the there is not as much text used for the audience to read. Another similarity between the two pieces is that they both include the  "PLAY.com" logo it is placed on both the magazine advert and the album cover, this is because the album can be listened to on this website and so having it on both pieces means more people will see it and realise its importance and then may be more likely to visit the website and therefore listen to the album and then possibly buy it. Overall there is more text on the magazine advert than on the album cover, this could be due to one fo two reasons, firstly that there is just less space on the album cover than on the magazine advert and fitting the text and the image on the album is hard so one had to be sacraficed. Secondly because the if the magazine advert has been effective people will already know about the album and the details about it, so the name of the band and the name of the album can be put in a smaller font without it having any sort of negative affect.

As you can see here from this comparison between the magazine advert and the album cover Mumford & Sons have not created as stronger link as Kings Of Leon and have decided instead to make the two pieces quite different. Mumford & Sons have decided to use four seperate pictures of each band member holding their instruments, which portrays them more as individuals. But then on the album cover they have pictured them all together in a shop window, here they are portrayed more as whole and they look more like a band here. The text on the two pieces is once again different, firstly the image is takes up less of the space on the advert allowing for more text to be written on the black backgound but with the album cover there is much less space and they decided that the picture would take up the whole cover. The magazine advert includes the names of songs, quotes from music magazines and logos. Whereas the album cover has much less text and just has the name of the band and the name of the album in quite a small font at the bottom of the cover. But importantly, the font of the name of the band and name of the album is kept the same over both pieces which is important as they need to have some sort of link if the picture is not the same like it is here.

As you can see here from this comparison between the magazine advert and the album cover Razorlight have created a strong link between the two. The first major similarity between the two is that the same image is used on both pieces, straight away this lets the audience know that they are linked are both promoting the same thing. Another smiliarity is the font used for the name of the band and the name of the album and the use of the bullet point in between the two words to split them up is carried over between the two pieces. The only difference here is that the colour of the font has changed from white to red, I believe this is because this is the only text on the album cover and so giving it the colour red gives it dominance and it does not have any other text to compete with so it is effective here. The album cover is very plain compared to the magazine advert and all the text has been dramatically reduced I believe this is becaus they want the picture to take dominance and all important other information the audience will already know.
