Evaluation Question 3
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Audience feeback is very important and is key when trying to make vital improvements to your work and without it I strongly believe that our end product would be anywhere as good without it.
Rough Cut
Our first opportunity to gather audience feedback was once we had finished filming and editing our rough cut. So we gathered six people from our target audience, which is key as they watch indie rock music videos all the time so they know exactly what they want, and asked them to watch our rough cut and write down on a piece of paper what they like and dislike about the video.

This feedback was extrememly helpful and from this we were able to create an action plan, which would use these comments about what our target audience like and dislike about the video and help us focus on what to improve or keep the same in our final cut.
Final Cut
Based on our previous feedback from our target audience we made a number of changes and adjustments to our rough cut to then create our final cut:
1. We used a larger variety of shots so to avoid the comments which said the shot choice was "boring" or "repetitive". We also varied how often the shots were used so not to use the same shot for more than a few seconds, which in turn lets the audience seen the performance from many different perspectives.
2. We gathered two stage lights and put them in two of the corners infront of the performance. This made the video look more professional as well as creating a sense of intimacy and sense of warmth.
3. We added more movement to the performance by encouraging the band memebers to become more engaged with the song and look like they are lost in the lyrics.
4. We increased the amount of camera movment by reducing the amount of shots filmed with the tripod as these were very static. We in turn increased the amount of hand held shots in order for the video to be more engaging for the audience.
5. Instead of just using normal cuts throughout the song, we differed the cuts used depending on what part the song it was. So if the song was at a slow point, we used transitions including fades or cross dissolves but if the song was fast at the chorus for example we would just use a lot of quick cuts to therefore relfect the pace of the song.
Once we had finished our final cut we wanted to gain more audience feedback about it. The whole class watched our music video and told use what they liked about it and what they didnt like about it. We took this feedback on board and realised the things we are proud as well as noticing the things we couldve improved if we were to do it again.

We also created two videos in order to help us answer the question. We came at the question from two different perspectives, the video on the left is a Q & A with members from our class, whereas the video on the right is less serious but shows the real life reation of people watching our music video done around the TV programme "gogglebox"
What we learned from this feedback:
!) People liked the way we had matched the editing to the pace of the song. If the pace of the song was slow then the use of cross dissolves and fades were utilised, whereas if the song became fast at the chorus for example, the fades were not used and instead lots of fast cuts were put in place.
2) People were very keen on each one of our band memebers and they thought that they played the part of indie rock artists very well and showed a lot of enthusiasm and energy througout their performance. This is something we were very happy with as the idea of getting lost in the song was something that came a lot in our research and feeback and so we really wanted it to come across in our final cut.
3) People also mentioned the clothes worn by the band members and said that they fitted what would be worn by indie rock artists which was very important as wearing the wrong clothes could completely confused the audience when it came to what type of genre of music they believed they were watching.
4) The setting was something that was mentioned a lot throughout our video development. Even though there were intial comments about the setting not being vibrant enough and maybe being seen as slightly dull and boring. We decieded to stick with it as we believed it would look better once we had placed the lighting in. The lighting did improve it as it gave it more atmosphere and an initmate feeling, but if we had to create the video again we could have maybe done more research into locations and found something that reflected the indie rock genre a bit better instead of just a plain hall.
5) The lighting we used helped a lot and it made the video looked very professional and was commented on as being one of the positives of our video. It created an intimate and warm atmosphere to the video which people liked. There were mixed feelings about the shadows as they were quite prominent in the video. Some people saw them as distracting and not needed whereas other people believed they added to the atmosphere. As a group we decided that we liked them and so we kept them in our video.
